well- I did not see many if any current central committee members working the booth- just candidates.

If they do not even mand their own booth- what ARE the doing?

Interesting Observation #1: Confused farmers wearing Boniface shirts and Helton stickers. Ridiculous.

Interesting Observation #2: Ehrlich wearing a Kazi sticker. Nice.

Interesting Observation #3: Massonni from the Governors office intercepting Glassman and informing him that if he approached the governor he would NOT be welcome. Very Nice.

Interesting Observation #4: Joe Steffen milling around in 100 degree heat and jeans. Crazy?

Interesting Observation #5: Glassman stalking Kazi trying to be “friends.” Pathetic.

Interesting Observation #6: No sign of Wagner at the fair except one small and illegally placed sign near Tollgate Road and the mall. Very pathetic.

Interesting Observation #7: Another plane dragging a Norm Cochran banner. ?!??!?!?!

  • 3 GOPerative // Aug 1, 2006 at 3:11 pm

I noticed that all the democrats had great booth/table locations. All the Republicans were shoved in the back of the tents. I wonder who made the decisions on booth/table placement.

  • 4 Greg2 // Aug 1, 2006 at 3:16 pm

#1 confused? maybe smarter than you are. MUCH smarter.

#2 A slap in the face to Boniface supporters (See #1). after November Kazi will be back in Baltimore City feeding off taxpayers.

    #3 nice teamwork (See #1)

    #4 Joe’s got a job to do

#5 “stalking”? now that’s pathetic. Kazi and his dirty politics not smart. burning bridges before you even cross them. His dirt is not welcome in Harford.

    #6 Vote for Billy Boniface

    #7 who cares?

Clearly Bob Ehrlich and his people think they own Harford County and can dictate who will run things here. Big mistake. Big miscalculation. Aaron Kazi? thnig again.

Thank you to Melvin Huber III, (Future U.S. Senator, from the great state of Maryland), 4-H Farmer from Jarrettsville, for inviting me to bid on your pigs. Senator Bob Hooper was the successful bidder on Melvin’s 243 lb pig. I was fortunate to be high bidder on the 270 lb pig. Melvin plans to raise “dairy” steers next. He also wants to attend the Aberdeen Math and Science Magnet School program when it opens. He and is friends say the best way to teach kids not to do drugs or smoke is to show them what it does to a real liver and lungs, and to actually touch it. Melvin also said he would be interested in sharing his farming experience as a mentor to urban youth who want to know more about animals and farming.
Thanks to you and your friends who went home Saturday night and made T-shirts to support my campaign. Wow! What a surprise. (I think you may have helped start a truly grass roots movement)
Thank you to your sister Olivia for giving her award winning 4-H cake to Flossie and I.
Melvin, Olivia, you and your friends were certainly the highlight of the farm fair to me.
    How can I repay you’re unbounded generosity? I can’t.
I will make you a promise: If elected I will roll up my sleeves and work very hard to make farming more prosperous than ever in Harford county, so you can continue your family farm tradition and pass it on to your children if you so desire. I will also work to Fast Track implementation of those magnet school programs for you.

Thank you Melvin, Olivia, and Friends.

How can someone run for Sheriff who is not even qualified to become a deputy…..Is it even legal.

Would they even understand what probable cause is?

  • 7 GOPerative // Aug 1, 2006 at 6:14 pm

    Steve,
I am assuming you are talking about Dave Tritt. I have to ask if you have ever spoken with him. I spoke with him at the Farm Fair and I am more impressed every time I hear him speak.

Dave is a probably a threat to your candidate even without policing experience because he has the support of some very high level conservatives, is probably the nicest person I have ever met, and he has some pretty darn good ideas. From what I can tell he is just an all around good guy. If you take the gloves off on Dave your candidate will look really bad. I noticed that you did not mention any other candidate, probably because you know what I am saying is true.

  • 8 GOP4runner // Aug 1, 2006 at 7:20 pm

GOPerative, I agree with you wholeheartedly about Tritt, perhaps Steve was talking about Serago.

  • 9 someone at the fair // Aug 1, 2006 at 9:07 pm

Dave is indeed qualified to become a deputy, and doubtless would pass the applicant process should he choose to work as a street officer. However, he is running for the Top Spot in the agency because he feels he can lead the agency in a manner that is fit for both the citizens of the county and the deputies that protect them. The posing of a certain other canidate for sheriff, saying that there are those who endorse him when it is NOT the case ( see The Examiner from 08.01.06 ) is VERY bothersome to me. And the obvious attempt to buy a public office is just more of same, the good ole boy network. Dave is NOT a member of this network and that is a good thing. Dave has been a canidate for Sheriff for a year now and it is funny how the other contenders for the spot only emerged recently.

  • 10 Anonymous // Aug 2, 2006 at 2:03 am

I thought it was interesting that the Craig’s bought a Boniface hog at the auction. Also interesting – out of all of the Dist D candidates Amy Hopkins Daney had the most shirts walking around the Fair. Brian Young probably had the most unexpected and impressive political booth. He is giving the Captain a run for his money

  • 12 Old Line // Aug 2, 2006 at 3:07 am

I’ll tell you impressed me the most at the Fair, and he doesn’t get much press. Glenn Spatz. He speaks well, knows what he’s talking about, and is as conservative as Goldwater and Reagan. I don’t know if he has much of chance against a pretty well know incumbent Slutzky, but he seems as qualified as anyone to knock him off.

  • 13 Kim Wagner // Aug 2, 2006 at 3:16 am

    Hi, Everyone:
So sorry to have missed the exciting happenings at the Farm Fair. I really enjoyed my 6 hour shift last year, but I had to missed it this year. Gee, I actually had to travel for BUSINESS during the farm fair this year. You know, that thing (BUSINESS) that allows me to participate in the political process, pays the bills, supports over 100 employees, etc. I wanted to personally thank ALL of my Central Committee partners, ALL which put in countless hours, raised the money and provided their talent to make the REPUBLICAN booth at the farm fair happen AGAIN this year. They are the same people that also raised money over the last four years to provide mailings to switch voters, forums for all republicans to get to know each other and of course our headquarters in Bel Air that ALL Republican candidates are welcome to use. I look forward to seeing you all turn out to welcome our NEXT Lt Gov Kristen Cox on Thursday night…..especially you, GOPoperative….kim

  • 14 Kim Wagner // Aug 2, 2006 at 3:20 am

ps my comment was in reply to PurgeCC:
“well- I did not see many if any current central committee members working the booth- just candidates.

If they do not even mand (sic) their own booth- what ARE the doing? ”

I encourage all of my hard worker cohorts to post their whereabouts over the last week or so…it would amaze those who choose to comment occasionally on this blog.

  • 15 Steve // Aug 2, 2006 at 9:43 am

My father and mother are nice people too but neither is qualified to be Sheriff. At the end of the day it is the most important elected position there is and the only one that requires experience. Tritt sounds great for a post as maybe a public information officer or liason of some sort but is he really the guy you want driving the train if a serial killer hit the area? Please wake up……………

  • 16 GOPerative // Aug 2, 2006 at 10:28 am

    Kim,
If I come should I wear my GOPerative name tag? I do have a good idea for the Central Committee. We need a few debates. It’s getting late to cover all the races but we could give most of them 30 minutes or so (Sheriff’s race and District D needs a full day). See what you can do. Thanks.

  • 17 GOPerative // Aug 2, 2006 at 10:32 am

    Old Line,
I agree with you on Spatz. I have liked him for quite some time. Slutzky is going to be very hard to beat though. I mentioned this months ago but I lack knowledge on a true contrast between these two. Like you mentioned, Spatz is much more polished. Remember Slutzky threatened to shoot the Aegis staff at high noon.

  • 18 GOPerative // Aug 2, 2006 at 10:48 am

    Steve,
I’m still waiting to see your alternative to Dave. Trust me man, I’m wide awake on this one. I chose Tritt over Golding when no one else was ready to make the leap and look how right I was. I listened to my friends who were deputies and they all said Golding was bad news. I’m still listening to them and they are still telling me Tritt is the way to go even with all these new entries. Keep in mind, for the most part deputies don’t like troopers and we have 3 troopers in this race.

I still need to hear your alternative to see if you are in touch with reality on this one. Please don’t say Norm. I fall asleep just thinking about it.

  • 19 GOPerative // Aug 2, 2006 at 10:54 am

    Fair,
Great research!! That’s how we do it!!

  • 20 HC4BONIFACE // Aug 2, 2006 at 1:21 pm

A Kazi supporter making stuff up? no way! Perhaps Ehrlich peeled it off and trashed it as soon as Aaron was out of eyesight.

  • 21 Nancy Jacobs // Aug 2, 2006 at 2:02 pm

    GOPerative,

I would like to thank you for your decision not to post “Chuck’s” comments.

I am hearing from a lot of people who are upset by how the discussions on the Blog have degenerated into personal attacks on individuals and candidates.

I have always been of the belief that Republicans were above the fray when it comes to common decency and courtesy toward others. That no longer seems to be the case on this blog.

I for one believe that a lot of folks who are posting here are dem’s trying to stir up dissension among the republican faithful. At least I hope that is what is going on.

I’d hate to think that any of my Republican friends would lower themselves and personally attack one another or the candidates these individuals support.

We really need to clean up our act and remember that a lot of people are looking at what is being said on this blog. If I were a new voter, I wouldn’t be drawn to a party that “eats his own” in this manner. This why I believe we’ve got a lot of dems posting here pretending to be R’s. I find it hard to believe that the true Republicans would participate in such dialog with one another.

GOPerative, you seem like a good guy/gal and your comments seem honest and above board. You have tried to “steer” conversations back on track and I’m glad you are doing that. I totally agree with your decision not to post innapropriate comments (Chuck’s comments) and I encourage you to do more of it..

Please continue to exercise your discernment by not publishing inappropriate comments. Good for you. I appreciate what you are trying to do on this blog.

It isn’t too difficult to figure out who the democrats are who have been commenting. I doubt that some of these folks who are portraying themselves as ultra conservative republicans know anything about what the Republican party stands for. The “Gipper” would be rolling over in his grave……

    Thanks for hearing me out.

    Nancy

  • 22 Greg Johnson // Aug 2, 2006 at 2:10 pm

I rest my case about Nancy Jacobs’ integrity. The woman is a class act.

  • 23 PolJunk // Aug 2, 2006 at 2:40 pm

Obviously, the photographic evidence at the State Offices has been tampered with and altered! Who would do such a thing? Must be someone from the northern part of the county.

  • 24 Greg2 // Aug 2, 2006 at 3:16 pm

    Nancy Jacobs,

Your endorsement of Aaron Kazi the self proclaimed “RINO Hunter” has been duly noted. As has GOPerative’s and Greg Johnson’s. The fact that not everyone supports this candidate is not a reason to attack us and question our TRUE BLUE CONSERVATIVE values. In fact. despite the constant drum beat that Kazi is this Reaganesque Conservative there has been nothing to back up this claim. Yes, Governor Ehrlich have been a major disappointment to this voter and Reagan idolizer. Your candidate seems to be a product of this Annapolis GOP machine rather than home grown. Before lecturing felluow Conservatives it would be wise to respect supporters of other candidates. I am excited that candidates like Donna Stifler are emerging to reclaim conservative values.

  • 25 Greg Johnson // Aug 2, 2006 at 3:35 pm

Kim Wagner, you have nothing to be apologetic about. You are definitely committed to our Party. I realized that at July’s Central Committee meeting. And Carol MacCubbin braved the heat despite health concerns. We got a bum deal from Joan Ryder, the Democrat operative. I say we boycott her real estate company. I mean, how obvious can you be putting the R’s all the way back in the corner and having the Dems and Jesse Bane up front and in your face?! Did anyone get the chance to meet that airhead Stan Kollar? You know, the militant atheist, anti-gun environmental wacko who uses his classes at HCC to indoctrinate impressionable young minds and is running against Bob Hooper in 35? Does he really think he has a chance?! That is going to be the biggest landslide in the history of elections.

  • 26 A Lifelong Harford County Resident // Aug 2, 2006 at 4:47 pm

    Greg Johnson,

I agree with you on Joan Ryder. Unfortunately, I have known her for years with the county fair. I think we should stand up and say something to her. She needs to know that just because we are republican does not mean that we deserve the ‘nose-bleed-section’ of the vendor area. I like what you said about Kolar. Bravo!!

  • 27 someone at the fair // Aug 2, 2006 at 5:26 pm

I must reply to Steve yet again. For myself, YES, I want Dave to drive the train if, heaven forbid, a serial killer were to strike in this county. I think Dave would do well in leading the agency in any crisis. Steve may be placing too much emphasis on the job of the sheriff. After all, it is the street deputies and detectives and corrections officers that are the lifeblood of the agency. They KNOW what to do and how to do their jobs. They are not mindless robots who must have a boss to tell them what to do. Dave understands the value of the deputies, wether they be a rookie or seasoned veteran. Dave is all about integrity, and it is a value that is urgently needed at this time. He has great ideas that could lead the agency to be a sought after place to work in this state – which would only benefit those of us who live in this county. I would challenge Steve to actually talk to Dave, either in person or email, as I think he would be surprised at him. I was.
And, like GOPerative, I await to hear about who is your choice of canidate.

  • 28 Kim Wagner // Aug 2, 2006 at 5:41 pm

    Hi, GOPerative:
Thanks for the debate idea! It is fabulous, but the Central Committee is already overwhelmed with pre-primary tasks. We definitely would have planned this if it wasn’t covered by another community group. I understand the AAUW (American Association of University Women), the newly reformed League of Women Voters and the Commission for Women will cohost debates on Sept 28th and Oct 4th that will be aired on HCN. I was part of that process four years ago, and the groups come together and do a great job.
    Greg:
Thanks for your kind words. I hope I didn’t sound too indignant. I just know who hard it is to get volunteers to work the booth at all the festivals we attend….Thanks to Teresa Reilly who usually handles that.
    Nancy:
Thanks for your input as well. As one of the senior leaders of our local Republican party, you are viewed with respect and admiration. Your opinion matters! kim

  • 29 Steve // Aug 2, 2006 at 6:46 pm

Im not sure my choice for Sheriff has anything to do with people running who are qualified. I have significant ties and EXPERIENCE in law enforcement and I can assure you that no police officer or deputy wants to work for someone less qualified than the rank and file. Thats why these guys work their butts off and try to excel up through the ranks so that maybe one day they’ll have a shot at being top dog.

You must respect your boss for his credentials first before things like integrity and leadership make the true difference. I dont know what field youre in but can you imagine someone being promoted over you thats never walked in your shoes……Please give me and the citizens of harford County a break.

  • 30 Nancy Jacobs // Aug 2, 2006 at 6:53 pm

    Greg 2,

I’m not sure why you took my comment addressed to the GOPerative so personally.

I respect everyone’s supporters. I have not been on this web site hiding who I am by using an alias so I could “feel free” to personally attack any candidate or the people who support them.

I support the people I want to support and you support the people you want to support. That’s great. That’s the American way.

By the same token, I am not going to aim personal attacks at opposing candidates or their supporters on this blog or anywhere else. Seems to me like YOU may be one who is doing the attacking right now …because of who I happen support.

I certainly wasn’t “attacking you” or your “TRUE BLUE CONSERVATIVE VALUES.” Attempting to twist the comment I made to the GOPerative to say that I was somehow attacking you is pretty funny….you seem a little sensitive for some reason.

My point is simply that some of the comments being made on this site have become rather vitriolic, malicious, and downright vicious at times…toward fellow republicans. I personally believe that is not a good way to win people over to an individual’s point of view….or that of their candidate or to the Republican party.

I”m sorry that you have taken the comments I addressed to GOPerative personally. I certainly did not attack you then nor do I plan to do so now.

I’d prefer to spend my time and energy defeating the Democrats in November…..

    Nancy Jacobs

    (a true blue conservative Republican)

  • 31 GOPerative // Aug 2, 2006 at 8:27 pm

    Steve,
Getting you to pick a candidate is like pulling teeth. Thanks for pointing out why Terry Serago is not qualified but who then should we support? Using your reasoning, I should vote for Bane because he has more experience than any one else.

  • 32 Greg2 // Aug 2, 2006 at 8:45 pm

I agree whole heartedly. Many of these personal comments about type of clothing, stalking people, and such are puzzling whether the work of Democrats or not. What troubles me the most and I hate to be redundant is it’s hard to tell who is conservative and who is faking it. Nancy Jacobs is a known quantity-no problem there. I single out Aaron Kazi because a lot of powerful connected people are doing his heavy lifting for him and he has yet to state his case. I don’t know what to make of the picture of him on the train on Dave’s site.

  • 33 Dave Tritt // Aug 3, 2006 at 12:22 am

    Greg2,

I was honored to have Aaron & his family attend my Applewood fundraiser on July 8th, where he is pictured. A good time was had by all.

    SATF,

Well said. Thanks for your support!

    Steve,

I guess you voted for Wesley Clark in the last election, since he was the only candidate running for Commander-in-Chief who was a General- obviously the only one qualified to command our troops.

Sens. Jacobs, Harris, and Hooper are good senators, but using your logic, we should “can” them all since they all make laws, but none of them are lawyers.

I think you are being more than a little closed-minded to think the agency can’t benefit from someone with experience in areas other than law enforcement. The sheriff should be more than a law enforcement person, he needs to be a community leader, an example, a politician, a listener, and the people’s voice in law enforcement. I’ve served at military bases around the world, I’ve seen how people in many different agencies do things, and I’ve been in customer service for many years. I’ve seen other agencies ruined because of poor morale, and the sheriff’s office is on that path now.

Keep in mind that the deputies are not being burned right now because their bosses don’t have law enforcement experience, they are being burned by men with decades of experience.

What is lacking right now is leadership, integrity, service before self, and accountability. That is exactly what is needed, FIRST and foremost, not somewhere else down the line. I am sorry that you downplay these qualities, because I believe they are prerequisites to any position of leadership.

  • 34 Steve // Aug 3, 2006 at 12:10 pm

My guess is this web site was set up by and controlled by Tritt. Am I correct?

  • 35 GOPerative // Aug 3, 2006 at 12:46 pm

Come on Steve. Last week I was Kazi. This week I’m Tritt. I support people just like you do. Oh, wait a minute, you still haven’t told me who I should consider for sheriff. This site is not controlled by any candidate. I get information from candidates and their campaign staff all the time. I pass that information on and people comment on it. That’s all. You have a voice on this site just like I do. So ultimately you control the site.

  • 36 GOPerative // Aug 3, 2006 at 1:01 pm

    Greg2,
Please correct me if I am wrong but you are a Boniface man. To be completely honest I have not heard Billy state his case either. I agree that others are doing Kazi’s heavy lifting but this is just a little blog. If I were a candidate I would probably just sit back and stay out of it for the most part. Kazi is really coming out hard in the press and on the blog as the Conservative option. If I were advising Billy I would try to take the wind out of the sails. The problem is that Billy does not counter the conservative claims of Kazi with conservative claims about himself which leaves us guessing. I think that is an honest assessment. As far as the pictures of Kazi on Dave’s site, I think it is just a picture of Kazi on a train at Dave’s event.

  • 37 GoldwaterGOP // Aug 3, 2006 at 1:53 pm

I agree with many who have posted thus far. The positioning of the Repbulican booths were by no means a mistake, I really think that there was an organized effort to put the Repbulicans in the back of the tents. I hope the Central Committee will take this issue up with Joan Ryder and the fair organizers.

I did notice one interesting booth placement. Ann Helton’s booth was right next to a booth that sold magic tricks. I had a bit of trouble telling them apart. ;-)

  • 38 Greg2 // Aug 3, 2006 at 3:00 pm

Yes. it is time for Billy, Aaron, and every other candidate to state their cases to the voters. Boniface must take it to the his “home field” the streets because he cannot counter Kazi’s dominance in the media vis-a-vis Steffen, Ehrlich, and Jacobs.

As for the picture I was just refering in jest to Kazi’s Nixonesque double peace sign salute. Nothing more. Just was wondering if anyone would get a chuckle out of it.

  • 39 riskbiz // Aug 7, 2006 at 8:55 am

Well, I’ve read a lot of Blog here about Dave Tritt. He is a nice guy without a doubt. Goperative, I do recommend you take a look at the 30 year law enforcement career of candidate Joe Price. True, as one Blog poster stated, the Deputies do not want “a trooper” running the agency however Joe has no intention of making the HCSO into PlayDoh of MSP. Joe is also a very nice, likeable, family man who has always had good rapport with Deputies. He is not in anyone’s pocket financially or otherwise. Joe’s been aware of the “difficulties” within the HCSO for years not months. Goperative, rest assured that he will challenge the status quo on South Main Street. You seem to believe that Dave Tritt is the only candidate with the courage to do it. Not so! Pls see http://www.priceforsheriff2006.com. Harford County has some serious law enforcement issues right now, not the least of which is the gang infiltration along the Route 40 corridor. Can you spell “MS-13?” This County can’t afford to have a candidate who cannot hit the ground running. These gangs will not stay confined, so to speak, along Route 40 forever. I can tell you that “local” gangs know MS-13 is here and the games will begin over turf, respect, etc. MS-13 makes the old Columbian drug gangs look like choirboys. We will only get one chance to get this right, folks. I know from whence I speak.

  • 40 GOPerative // Aug 7, 2006 at 9:06 pm

    Riskbiz,
Thanks for the comment. It is good that you are supporting Joe Price. I do believe that he is a good man and of all the candidates I have considered he is in the top two. I just cannot support Cochran for a number of reasons. I think that Joe and Dave are of the same mold. I like that change is central to both of their platforms. May the best man win.

  • 41 riskbiz // Aug 7, 2006 at 9:55 pm

Yes, Cochran concerns me too. Rumor has it that he is getting a lot of builder/developer backing. Maybe he’s sore about not getting elected a while back and figures he’ll park himself at the Sheriff’s Office for four years until “bigger and better” things come along.

  • 42 10-50 magnet // Aug 8, 2006 at 9:39 am

    riskbiz-
I am more concerned about Norm’s connection to the current regime than I am concerned about his builder/ developer connections. Norm is pals with Tom and Howard, and he works for Gary McLhinney, Tom’s first hand-picked replacement, along with another former member of Golding’s command staff. It is interesting that the woman McLhinney is “dating” is the same county attorney who is pursuing the case against the union president. I’m sure he will get a fair chance (sarcasm).
Norm should have been running away from this crowd, but he doesn’t seem to get it as he continues to brag about Golding’s endorsement (Friday’s Aegis) and proudly displays pictures of him on his website.

  • 43 publican // Aug 21, 2006 at 8:13 am

“I did not see many if any current central committee members working the booth- just candidates.

If they do not even mand their own booth- what ARE the doing? ”

    (1) The night I was there, 3 members of the RCCHC were there working, two had their spouses working and one had his kids working. Maybe the other 9 were out raising more money or working the phone bank. In the entire state, only Balto Co has more money to dole out to the GOP candidates. Something tells me you were probably just lost and were at the City Fair by mistake. (2) In the general election I dont think Cochran can beat Bane. Tritt should get behind Price. Maybe they can make a deal. It’s to bad that Eddie Hopkins isn’t running solo. (3) Somebody should have a talk with Ms. Ryder. Somebody talked to the greeks and I hear they took down their Oh’Malley bill boards at the Double T. hee hee
