What, now we go and find our own "magic Negro"?

This is a very, very sad day for America. The election of Steele proves that the Republican party will not go in the direction they need to for the sake of our country. They can expect to be in the minority for quite some time to come.

Are you a true conservative or just a kool aid drinker? If you are a true conservative then you would listen to what this other true conservative has to say about him.

Steve Deace is so right about him.

He's a RINO. On that we can be clear. This proves that the Republican Party's move to the Left might be a permanent legacy of the Bush years.

FYI, might want to listen to my exclusive interview with Michael Steele and comment. Thanks. JL.

And forget, please, "conservatism," please. It will not “save” us because it has been, operationally, de facto, Godless and therefore irrelevant. Secular conservatism will not defeat secular liberalism because to God both are two atheistic peas-in-a-pod and thus predestined to failure. As Stonewall Jackson's Chief of Staff R.L. Dabney said of such a humanistic belief more than 100 years ago:

"[Secular conservatism] is a party which never conserves anything. Its history has been that it demurs to each aggression of the progressive party, and aims to save its credit by a respectable amount of growling, but always acquiesces at last in the innovation. What was the resisted novelty of yesterday is today .one of the accepted principles of conservatism; it is now conservative only in affecting to resist the next innovation, which will tomorrow be forced upon its timidity and will be succeeded by some third revolution; to be denounced and then adopted in its turn. American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward towards perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. This pretended salt bath utterly lost its savor: wherewith shall it be salted? Its impotency is not hard, indeed, to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It intends to risk nothing serious for the sake of the truth."

Our country is collapsing because we have turned our back on God (Psalm 9:17) and refused to kiss His Son (Psalm 2).

Great post. It is important to learn from the losses. The millions spent on television advertising by the Harris camp seem to have been largely wasted. Voters need more specific information than "he's a liberal." Find a quote, vote, or something to base this on.

Mindlessly repeating liberal has never worked to my knowledge. I remember when Dave Fisher ran against Wayne Gilchrest employing largely the same "he's a liberal" tactics unsuccessfully.

The bottom line is that even in a down year for Republicans, this never should have happened. The district was drawn for a Republican, and GOperative is right - blame has to be assigned.

One thing missing from your poll (but mentioned in the beginning of your piece) that should not be ignored is the $2 million pumped into this race by the national democratic machine. This was a significant amount of money that in conjunction with all the other factors really hurt Andy.

From what I could see, Andy was working hard to get the shore vote. I really was surprised he didn't fare better given the time he spent over there.

I'd like to add Roscoe Barlett to your list of elected officials. What a disappointment he was this election. I don't understand what his problem with Harris is. Is this a case of the Washington politicians protecting each other no matter what? If this is the case, why didn't Roscoe endorse Harris after the primary? Certainly Bartlett's conservative voting record is more in line with Harris than Gilchrest.

Hopefully Andy will find a different campaign manager and run again.

In the list of people to blame, you left out the one most important option. Andy Harris.
Harris has a personality that rubbed everyone wrong. He is condescending, arrogant and spends a lot of time smirking.
He failed to understand the first district. He thought that any republican could win in the district. (his arrogance showing) He is really disliked in the state senate and that word spread like wildfire on the shore that he is a hard person to work with. Andy has no one to blame but himself.

Andy Harris and his campaign manager were overconfident following the primary win. Their only strategy was to call Kratovil a liberal over and over and over. When that didn't work, the Club for Growth dropped in and called Kratovil EXTREMELY liberal. Wow, it must have taken a pro to come up with that one. The desperate attempt to paint Kratovil as a weak prosecutor may have brought back some fence sitting Gilchrest Republicans, but most saw through the false attacks. My guess is that Harris' campaign manager will have a tough time finding another job in the same capacity. The race was theirs to lose, and they did just that. I saw no coherent theme to the campaign, and I guess they thought that plastering the entire 1st District with Andy Harris signs was sufficient to get a "conservative Republican elected every day of the week." Looks like it won't work out that way.

Say what you want Harkins has done more for our county than any other. He has served us well and deserves the credit. Working with O’Malley may not be the best, but it can’t erase the good he has done! The Aegis is a rag that has bashed him for years. Nothing new!

For what it is worth, coming from me, it is a pleasure working with Senator Glassman. I'm not taking anything away from the late Senator Hooper, he too was great to work with on the issues. Barry strength lies in his ability to build a concensus on the issues working both sides of the aisle. This benefits the citizens of Harford County.
